Default 2002 Toyota Corolla Engine Swap?
Hi, I'm looking to swap a more powerful engine into my 2002 Toyota Corolla CE.















I'm NOT looking for "It's not worth it" answers because I want to do this.

The engine I have now is a stock 120 horsepower 4 cylinder.















Want to get something that can be turbocharged in the future.































Can anyone recommend something or tell me what to look for in an engine so that it fits?

Great answers! I'm also looking to change my tranny to a manual (preferrably an aftermarket brand) as long as its not too pricy. any tips guys?

Toyota itself has started putting 2.4 liter Camry 4-cylinder engines into Corollas. Would make me suspect that it's possible to put a larger 4-cylinder in your car. Fitting a V6 seems unlikely and the car would end up too nose-heavy if you could.

The best swap you could is a 2zz-ge of a celica gt, or the newer corolla/matrix xrs. This is the same engine used in the Lotus Elise it has 180 hp. It will bolt right up to the stock mounts and even to your transmission if you want to.

A third option for you to consider would be a 3rd or 4th gen 3S-GTE engine from a Celica GT-4 or Turbo MR-2.















































It's an inline 4, 2.0L Turbo, and puts out 230-265hp depending on the year and specs.

I know it's not a superbike it's reeling in or anything like that, but in its current state I don't think your corolla could keep up with a vespa.... lol















































You can find them on e-bay for anywhere from $2000-$3500 for a decent one.
