I am not really a car person, but i have always wanted a toyota supra with a 5spd. i need a car right now and cant really afford much more than a $5000 loan. I came across this 87 Supra that claims to have 113k on it for $3500. Under the best conditions, with very little automotive skill, is it reasonable to buy such an old car? http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/n...209267545.html
yeah it is clean as hell, make sure you are there for a cold start if it smokes it may mean the valve stem seals need to be replaced and that could cost a grand, turbo could be leaking oil
Actually, if it smokes when started cold, it could just be the typical old car, or if you smell oil burning, that would mean your oil rings need replacing, which would run WAY more than $1000. your talking more than the car is worth.
I am gonna recommend you pass on this one. Buying a 25 year old car no matter what the condition it is in, will need some well needed attention. If you do not have automotive skills, or alot of money to throw into it, don;t buy it. Besides that supra is over priced. It is quite cherry especially on the inside but it is definitely overpriced.
