Catastrophic engine sludge can cause a Toyotas engine light to come on. Engines sludge was a big issue with these because of the defect Toyota built into the engine, narrowing the oil ports internally, in an attempt to heat the engine up and be more fuel efficient. It backfired on Toyota, instead causing the engine oil to gel up and clog up the engines causing massive engine failure. No sense in asking Toyota about it. They have blamed every one of the thousands of sludge incidents on the customers, so that they did not have to pay damages. When the courts finally forced Toyota to admit it. Yours may not be this case if your lucky. But an engine light can mean engine failure is occuring because engine oil is being obstructed, and unable to circulate properly in the engine.
