I know that I am not a expert on the land cruiser style of Toyota but am familiar with the pickup body design. there should be a similarity between them I would suspect.
1986 pickups was the last year for the solid front axle.
1987 had IFS with a carburetor 22r motor.
1988 had Had IFS with a F.I. 22re motor
1989 they did a totally different body change
Now is here is curve ball!!!
There are Toyota land cruisers built primarily for Australia import well into the 1990's that still retained a solid front Axle. so I am not 100% sure of the defining year that the IFS was implemented to the Land Cruiser.
100series land cruiser station Wagon are independent front end 105 series wagons are solid axle all hj75 and hzj 75 are solid front end hdj78/79 series are independent front all bj series are solid and all rj series are independent inc bunbera
In the US, Land Cruisers ALL had solid front axles up through the 1997 model year. Starting with the 1998 model year, they are ALL independent front suspension.
