I need help programming the garage door opener on my 2006 Toyota Avalon Limited?

I have been using the instructions in the owner's manual but the openers won't work. I appear to have a rolling code door opener, but the doors won't open when I follow the instructions for the rolling code doors. It says to push the Homelink button twice then the door should open, if not push it a third time. Does the car have to be in the garage under the motor for it to work? How long should I hold the button down between pushes? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

I have a home link also its pretty simple you will need two people to do it. some one has to push the button on the garage opener it should be some where on it the button is on the back of my garage, but i do not know what brand you have. While someone is pressing the garage opener button you have to press which ever button on your home link at the same time. Now it should take up to 10 second, but hold it there at the most of 20 seconds. now this may or may not work I drive a lexus and it is that easy for me, but i dont know how it differ in the toyota brand.
