What the enthusiasts see as "boring" the people looking for family cars see as "dependable." For every buyer who wants a "tuner" car there are probably a dozen who want a reliable car to get them to work, to pick up the children from school, get the groceries home from the store... to go about the business of real life. Toyota has filled that niche better than Honda has. Honda's failure patterns - fuel pump relays for nearly two decades, ignition switches for nearly a decade, and especially automatic transmissions on 6 cylinder engines for 5 years (!) - have cost them.
