I'm planning on buying a 91' 92' 93' Toyota pickup and I want to know if I can change the motor?

I want to know if I can swap the old motor it with a diesel engine like a Cummins 4bt or something similar?

I don't want a dodge or ford diesel I would like a big truck engine from an 18wheeler or a box truck like the frieghtliner or volvo or gmc.

And do I need to change the transmission?or can i use the 5 speed one that came with it?

the 4bt is a good choice, i'd stick with that plan, as for the tranny you would have to get a custom adapter plate. but the toyota trans is ment for taking lightweight and medium torque loads so it might not hold up that well

GOOD GRIEF ! ! A diesel that big would twist the truck like a pretzel the first time you floored it. Granted, Toyota builds a fairly sturdy frame, but it's not that sturdy.

And the stock transmission would grind itself into a fine powder if you introduced it to that much torque.

OK first of all a toyota pickup is way small just and 18 wheeler's engine is heavier than the truck itself. But I know of a very good engine its a Detroit diesel from GM. It is called 4-53T two stroke. Since it is two stroke this engine gives double its power cause of being a two stroke. The only problems is that you have to add a turbo so the engine gets more power if not it is junk so add the TURBO ok.Oh and don't worry this engine will fit in a little ford so it must fit into your toyota.And the trans is all right.
