Personally, I wouldn't buy a yaris, but first I will address your questions. It is, like all Toyotas, very reliable. It's overall mpg is around 30. Now, for my reasoning: It's overall road test score is 50. The Honda Fit, by the same criteria scores 76, and gets 33 mpg overall. The Yaris is one of the few reliable, practical cars that Consumer Reports doesn't recommend because it's basically a piece of mediocre rolling appliance. There are other better cars to consider as well, but the Fit is at the top. It's also more stylish, inside and out, and handles better. Compare for yourself.
