Cost of a Catalytic converter for toyota camry 1996?

Default Cost of a Catalytic converter for toyota camry 1996?
I am trying to get my car to pass smog, so i was told i need a new catalytic converter... How much for a toyota camry 1996 converter? I was told This year Camry doesn't use universal... So it will cost estimated $1200 But i am looking online, just typing in the price of a converter and i see em for like $199-$300 ... Whats the cheapest way about getting my Camry a new converter!?































Appreciate any help with this!

According to bureau of automotive repair, you'll need a new catalytic. Not used but new, however find one from a junkyard that is guaranteed or ask your mechanic to do it so that he's responsible as well as knowing where to buy it.

If you are in California you have little choice but to go with the Toyota converter at the Toyota price. Elsewhere in the US you can use an aftermarket replacement - I expect somebody somewhere makes an aftermarket converter for it. It won't be stainless steel like the original but in a 15 years old car I doubt it matters. Your best bet is to get estimates at muffler shops. There are essentially no legal used catalytic converters in the US. Used converters can be sold if they are recertified, but the recertification process makes them too expensive to compete with new ones.
