Default Is it a bad idea to take a 1999 Toyota Camry with 150,000 miles on a 1,000 mile trip each way?
Next month I'm planning on taking a driving trip that is 1,000 miles each way in my 1999 Toyota Camry that has 150,000 miles on it.































I'm the original owner of the car.































Over the past 12 months I had two repairs. I put in a new radiator and I had to fix an oil pan gasgaet leak.































Many people think I'm nuts to take an old car on a road trip this long. Is it a bad idea?

Additional Details















I do have triple AAA prmeuim towing. I have one tow for 200 miles and 3 other tows for 100 miles per year.































This drive is from Los Angeles to Portland,Oregon and then maybe to seattle.































I'm planning on bringing money in an envelope that is for car repairs only.































People have told me that if my car breaks down in an area where I don't know any mechanics to always go to the nearest Toyota dealer. Is this true?

I would not worry if you have done the Maintince proper.















I have 120,000 on my 4 runner and would not worry about a long road trip.















Have you had your Timing beld replaced, and the breaks checed.















If so you should be good.

yeah sure ..if u know ur car..and its in good running condition...but u will find out about ur car..Ive got a 04 Sienna with 97k on it and i drive it everywhere. and also a 2000 T/A with 163k on it and its been to up and down the east coast with out a problem...

Go ahead if your belts, tires, and hoses are good. You have AAA and that's a good thing. As far as where to get repairs, you're going to get ripped either way, so the dealer would probably be the best idea. At least you know THEY know what they're doing.
