She may not have even BEEN Japanese. Movie makers AND advertising agencies will often use any Asian to play the part with the attitude that Caucasians wont know the difference. To them, all Asians look alike, which is true MOST of the time. My Asian wife was once approached by a Caucasian, and the conversation went something like this:
What are you?
Female homo Sapiens last time I checked
No, no. I mean where did you COME from?
My mother.
NO, no. I mean in what country were you born?
THIS country.
?????? You're an American citizen? you look Asian.....
(blinking) I am an American citizen of Asian decent.
(also blinking, as if confused) OH.....
