Default My 2003 Toyota Corolla's AC has never worked properly. Anyone else have problems with this?
The AC has never worked properly and when it's really hot, it shuts down completely. I've had it to the dealership many times and they never can find the problem because it's intermitent. I brought it in today because it quit working again in the fall. Now they tell me I need a new compressor for $1200. Any Ideas?

Well, the Toyota dealer has been becoming shadier and shadier after their need to recover all of those lost profits with their recent recalls... They could've been waiting for your warranty to expire before letting you know of the problem. IF it is the compressor like they say, and I doubt their gonna lie, you could try calling a few junkyards (I know, its scary) and tell them what you're looking for. It would definitely be in your best interest if they are quoting you at $1200. Seems like that price is including the mechanic's labor?

You can get a better price at a A/C and radiator shop. They specialize in this type work, so will know it's done right. Dealers often sub out this kind of work to a local shop ANYWAY.































Why not eliminate the middle man?

You get a second opinion first from another shop (not a toyota dealer) find how much the repair will cost you? I assume you still have your paper work from the previous times you've taken your car in to the dealer. Go in and see the toyota service manager. Tell him you're side that you brought the car in time and time again. Now that the ac doesn't work they found the problem miraculously. They won't do anything for free but if the bill is lowered ,especially when compared to what the 3rd party quoted then it is worth it. You take that deal you can't ask for more. Whatever the outcome is always remember that all these dealers do the same sh%t, "NTF" ,no trouble found, that's what they say for every customer complaint.
