Key not working in doors - 94 toyota?

I just bought a 94 Toyota pickup from a friend. he had only one key for the truck but it does not work in the doors (works fine in the ignition). The door locks work fine manually and a phone call to the local Toyota dealing told me the same key should work on both.

Is it possible for the key to be just too worn down to work in the doors, but still work fine in the ignition? I asked the previous owner if either the ignition or door lock cylinders had ever been changed, but he did not know.

if a good shot of WD-40 in the door locks doesn't get 'em to work, chances are the ignition tumbler was changed and it's not the original key. or one door lock went bad, and both were changed out.

there's a # stamped on the driver door tumbler and one on the ignition tumbler/steering lock housing. obviously they should match. if they don't well, you have your answer.

apparently, toy keeps key cut info for tumbler # for a long time. i have an 89 terc. the local lock smithy made me sets just from the number after they called the dealer. 20 bucks.

Yes it is possible for the key to be worn down or for the cylinder to be shot.

I had a 87 Toyota Pickup and cylinder was shot as well. Picked up new cylinder

on Ebay for 10 bucks. THough it was new I had to carry around 2 keys at all times

to open the door and to put key in ignition. You can probably pick up ignition and

cylinder as package from ebay but you will have to look around

It is possible for the key to be worn down. I have a 2001 toyota corolla and the key will only work on the driver's side door. It won't unlock the passenger side or the trunk. ALSO - I got two keys with my toyota and they look the same the the dealer told me that only one of them will open the doors and operate the ignition. The other one will only work on the ignition and would not unlock the doors. This may be what is going on with your key, but the dealership should have known if this was the case.
