My experience regarding any vehicle "Burning Oil" whether it is the Toyota recommended 5W30 or 10W30 or even changing the oil filter (to include genuine Toyota filters) is that usually it comes from age and wear n tear but more importantly not checking the oil level in your vehicle's engine.
The role of oil and antifreeze & water is to serve as lubriicants & coolants and to dissipate engine heat so if one lets the oil run too low or there is not enough, the result causes irreversible damage to engine parts. Consequently the engine will continue to drink or use more oil because there is leaking internally.
Bottomeline yes, constantly adding engine oil will add up and become like a nag meaning maybe having to buy oil by the case and keep it in your trunk. Problem is once you decide & neglect thinking there must be a better solution and drive off without checking & adding oil, eventually you will regret you neglected preventive maintenance from the beginning because what will eventually happen is the engine will SEIZE and shutdown on some highway or road far from your mechanic and your vehicle will need to be towed and instead now you're talking even bigger expense of getting a replacement engine installed if you decide it is the cheaper solution...
Best of Luck!
