1. The only place that I've ever heard the Prius is an unmanly car is Answers. I believe that says more about the Answers population than it does about the Prius. In the real world people just don't care what car you drive as long as you don't block their driveway.
2. Most of the anti-Prius feeling seems to me to be either ignorance of the car or "sour grapes". In an earlier generation, I guess they would have called the Prius a "commie car" but since we stopped being paranoid about commies after the collapse of the Soviet Union, another minority had to be chosen. Some people resort to name calling when they don't have any real negative facts, or the ones they do have are proven false.
3. The Prius is the first car in a very long time which has some actual engineering innovation rather than just rehashing last century's technology and styling and using tons of advertising to make people believe they are getting something new.
4. The Prius has certainly proved that it's reliable and low cost to maintain.

My own Prius has cost 12 cents per mile for dealer maintenance, tires, and fuel combined over the 120,000 miles I've driven it so far according to the logbook that I keep. It still runs like new, and based on the high owner satisfaction rating it appears that my good experience isn't unique.
2004 Prius MPG from the logbook. (Complete years only):
2003-2004 -- 50.8 mpg 17,628 miles

2008 -- 59.9 mpg 21755 miles
