check the parts for what reason ?? Normally, the distributor is not an item that can be rebuilt; it would be replaced instead

Usually it is cheaper to replace the distributor. Things you can check first

1. Check fuses engine fuses and inside the cab fuses

2. Pull the coil wire off of the distributor cap and place it next to a ground source and have someone crank the engine you should have a spark (hold plug wire with a rag so you don't get a shock) If there is NO spark then problem will be from the coil back (not the distributor). If you have spark replace the coil wire onto the distributor cap and remove the number 1 spark plug wire (by the spark plug) again hold next to a ground source and crank engine If NO spark then problem will be in the distributor. If you have spark then replace the spark plug wire and put some starting fluid in and try starting the engine if engine fire it will be a fuel problem.

electrically?

by ohms checking them. you have an external coil (primary& secondary fields), "in distributor" pickup coil, and an ignitior (either external or on the fire wall). all should be ohms tested.

then there's the vacuum advance and fly weights that can be physically checked.

if you state the vehicle and engine, i can provide that info, or supply you with a link to a manual.

need to know what motor you have.

FYI,

most distributors can be rebuilt. completely! *some* ASIN distributors can not be *completely* rebuilt. if the air gap exceeds 0.20-0.40mm between the pu coil and the signal rotor, it's toast.

however, your air gap *maybe* adjustable.

much cheaper to replace Internal items than to replace an ASIN distributor. coils, and ignitors are only 20 bucks or so. distributors are hundreds.
