Toyota RAV4 has engine light, wet on engine, what could be the problem?

It's a 2002, the engine light was on but the guy said it was a sensor that cost $400 to repair. Also, when we opened up the hood, the engine was a little wet and we asked why and he said from the "rain".

Anybody know what the problem could be?

It's a 2002 with 94000 miles, is it worth $7000?

first have the trouble codes cleared and wait to see if it comes on again, many times there are false codes and no your engine should not get wet when it rains

Wet has nothing to do with sensors....unless water has seeped inside of the engine. But you would know that, because water and gasoline don't like each other too much. You might have a bad sensor. Usually electronic items on cars only last about 100K miles, and you are close to getting there. If this engine light stays on for about a week longer, I would go get it checked out.
