Default Why does the 2004 Celica w/ manual transmission get worse MPG than the automatic transmission?
Okay, I'm looking at buying a 2004 Celica but I am very confused. Edmonds says that the automatic gets better gas mileage than the manual transmission does anyone know why? Aren't manual transmissions generally the ones with better gas mileage?

And why does Edmunds, or anything else matter?































Those are ESTIMATED quotes of fuel economy.































Your results will vary, so what difference does it matter what a website says?

What!! I never heard of that! All manual transmission have better gas mileage than automatic transmission cars.

Generally, they get better gas mileage. But for people that like to have fun with their 5-speeds, they have very good potential to get worse than an automatic. Like the other guys said, they are just EPA estimated ratings, so you really can't go by those.
