In the mid 2000s Toyota shortened the oil change intervals to 5000 miles due to sludge and gelling concerns. They also added a simple mileage counter "idiot light" as a reminder to get the oil changed. Usually at 4500 miles it flashes or comes on for a few seconds at startup, at 5000 it stays on solid.
The usual procedure to reset: cycle through all the trip odometer options and stop on the main odometer, turn the car off, while holding the trip reset button turn the key back on without starting the engine, the odometer will show dashes that count down till they are all gone, then show 0s, now turn the car back off again and the reminder is reset for another 5k.
