stud extractors have a fluted left hand twist. drill a hole in the center of the broken stud, tap the extractor in with a hammer and unscrew. for nuts they use a socket with the fluted twist on the inside, find the closest size tap it on with a hammer and unscrew. there are also nut splitters that cut into the side of the rounded nut, splitting it open like a walnut
