It doesn't have a timing belt, it has a chain. I also have a 2001 Corolla and asked about this as I had a Ford that had a timing belt break and damage the engine. The head of the service department told me that the chain is expected to last the lifetime of the vehicle. My car has 120,000 miles on it and last week I was told that I needed a tensioner on the timing chain. I had it repaired, cost about $200.
