typically it will be the sending units or wires that go first.
oil pump itself is prolly fine. there's a relief valve on the pump that can be cleaned/inspected.
do you have a t-stat in it? did someone pull it? it needs the two stage t-stat. usually ppl have a bad t-stat. change it using an after market one. that makes the 22R/RE motors over heat. they can't figure it out, so it's just removed.
