What is this clunk noise on my 2001 Toyota Tacoma?
It's a 2.7L 4wd, 5 speed. When I depress the clutch going from 1st to 2nd, or 2nd to 3rd, there is a single clunk, is almost certainly the drivetrain. Sometimes hear going from 3rd to 4th gear. But I can minimize or eliminate the clunk by shifting real gently- if I keep the RPM's low and shift early-like 10mph from 1st to 2nd gear.
It's probably unrelated, but will add this: about 3 months ago, had a sqeak every time the driveshaft turned. Fixed this by lubing the rear driveshaft yolk. I also lubed the front yolk and the spiders, which all have grease fittings.
