Default Can my 2004 Toyota Matrix (5speed) run on e85 "flex fuel"? ?
I'm just looking for some more opinions before I go talk to my Toyota Technician.

No - it simply won't run. E85 is basically ethanol with some gasoline contamination, so it behaves like ethanol. Your Matrix is programmed to provide a 14:1 air to fuel ratio, expecting it to be gasoline. Ethanol requires an 8:1 ratio and won't burn at all at 14:1. Flex-fuel cars have a fuel composition sensor to run on e-85. The first source has a better explanation.

IF it doesnt say Flex Fuel then dont even attempt to try it. Ive heard of some people using 10% on NON Flex Fuel vehicles but honestly doesnt make a difference and probably causing wear on the vehicle for no reason. Bottom line dont attempt it youll probably be sorry

NO. And don't go talk to your technician about even thinking about it. You engine runs on gasoline, not ethanol "flex-fuel."
