Does anyone have instructions on how to program a new key for a 2006 Toyota Avalon?

New key will open the doors but will not start the vehicle. Need instructions on how to program the new transponder key for a 2006 Avalon please.

the new key must have the transponder inside. if you paid $3 for this key at home depot, or it is made of solid metal with no plastic cavity at the top containing the chip, it will never work for the ignition.































If you have a proper transponder key:















For 2002+ Toyota, Lexus















Add Duplicate Key:































Requires one working Toyota/Lexus Master Key.































1. Make sure all doors and windows are closed.















2. Insert Master key into the ignition cylinder.















3. Cycle the ignition cylinder from On to OFF five times.















4. Open and close the driver side door 6 times.















5. Remove the Master Key and insert the new duplicates key.















6. TURN THE IGNITION CYLINDER ON.















7. The new key will be registered after 60 seconds. The THEFT light on the dashboard will go out, indicating that programming has been completed.

The dealer or certain locksmiths can do this, but it costs a hundred or more. You can't do it yourself.

My brother-in-law needed one for his Honda and had to go to a dealer.......

2006 was the first year the keys had to be programmed by the dealer or an automotive locksmith. That's progress, I guess.
