From the factory, all FJ40s were 4wheel drive.
People do all sorts of things to their vehicles, and I know of at least a few that have been converted to 2wd "street rods".
From the factory, all had manual transmissions and in-line 6-cylinder motors.
Again, people do all sorts of things to their vehicles, and I would guess that at least half of the FJ40s still driving around have had a drivetrain swap of some sort.
Realize that even the newest FJ40s out there are nearly 30 years old, and some of the older ones are pushing 50. That's a lot of time for people to have modified things - some good, others not so good.
