Machines aren't "reliable". They're just machines. You make them reliable by taking good care of them, maintaining them, etc.
Adding parts to a car that pushes it's limits past the original designed specifications, IS NOT TAKING CARE OF IT. Things will break down faster, things will wear out faster.
IF you decide to keep up with that cost, and continue dumping money into the car, it will last.
Most people like you, don't do that. They want to bolt on a turbo or supercharger, and never deal with it again. That's not how it works. This is an investment.
