Default How do I find out which o2 censor to change in my 1998 Toyota Tercel by looking at my emission test?
I recently failed and want to change the sensor but there are two. Any ideas on how to find out which one to change??

Most cars have pre and post catalytic converter O2 sensors.































If you failed emissions testing, it's likely that it's the pre cat O2 sensor, but that is not an absolute.































Go over to autozone (or some place like that) and have them read the OBD codes from your car. They should indicate which O2 sensor this is. If not, go for the first one.































Please note, be careful with the sensor when installing.

Just replace them both. Might as well.. You don't want to be back in the shop again. And it literally takes fifteen minutes to do it.

after warming the engine, connect a volt meter in-line. run to 2500 rpm and hold. the volts should fluctuate around 1.5 volts. if it remains steady, replace.
