Toyota Echo 2003 A/C squealing on start
I have a problem with my Toyota Echo 2003 a/c. It starts squealing very loudly when I hit the gas pedal when starting out.
It has to be an a/c problem since it never screeches with the a/c off. However, once the car is already in motion (after 20mph or so), I can safely turn on the a/c and it doesn't screech, but at the next stop I have to turn off the a/c again otherwise it will start to squeal when starting out. I also feel like the car doesn't have as much power when it's screeching.
The a/c itself is working, it blows cold air, it just seems like something is not engaging right at low speeds/when just starting out.
I had one of the belts replaced but it didn't fix it at all, just wasted 80 bucks. There is another belt down under but google says it is a power steering belt so it shouldn't have anything to do with it.
My next thought is something called a/c clutch. Now is that something that can be replaced separately from the compressor and how much would it cost? Would it make more sense to replace compressor with it too?
I am really not a car person, just googling my problem, so that I won't get ripped off (again).
Any help is appreciated.
Edit: One more thing, the a/c screeches only in hot humid weather or when it's raining.
