How does back pressure effect a 22r?

I have an 84 Toyota pickup with a 22r and I'm looking to get my exhaust done. I'm installing a hooker or doug thorley header, high flow cat, and a flowmaster. However, I'm confused about how the back pressure works on a 22r. I would like to run 2.5"-3" pipe but I'm not sure if that wide of pipe will make my motor run rough because of a lack of back pressure. (I'm guessing this because my exhasut now is is about 1"-1.5" in diameter)

you have a carb and obd1. unless it's restrictive, you trucks engine won't care what you do. you can run straight headers. no prob.

no need to go 3" though. you won't push that much flow as you have a very long stroke. these have a hard time just doing 6,000rpm on hwy.

2.5 will be cheaper and more than capable. unless your seeing a turbo in your future.

your motor should run better with less back pressure.

No need to run 3" pipe unless you had turbo. You would feel a major difference in the lack of power. 2.0-2.5 should be ok. The motors on those trucks lack power and torque. If you change out exhaust also look to change out stock intake to. If you have a carb you can put in KN filter but if you have fuel injected you can change the intake out. Remember the more it throws out of the exhaust the more air it has to intake or engine will run rough
