Default 1984 Toyota Pickup cooling set up?
I have a 1984 Toyota pickup that has some over heating issues. The truck has a stock radiator and a small-med. size electric cooling fan. I'm looking to buy a new high performance radiator and fan assembly but I'm not sure where to look. I've done some searching on google but havnt come up with much. So my question is, does anyone know of any places/websites that would have such things for this truck?































Also, single fan vs. dual fan Which is better?

Is the fan working? Is the fan close to the size of the radiators core/middle? Originally your truck should have had a engine driven fan with thermostatic clutch. Also a fan shroud around the fan attached to the radiator to direct the air flow on the radiators core.

The 22r engine doesn't produce a lot of heat. They usually won't overheat unless there's a blockage or a thermostat problem.































Have you tried removing the thermostat and driving? If the engine stays cool with the thermostat removed, you can try replacing it with a lower-temp opening point or dual-valves.































Why aren't you using the original, engine-driven fan?































Also, are you sure it's really overheating? Sometimes the stock temp gauge and sender can give false readings.

I agree with Eric P. Get rid of the electric fan and put the fan clutch back on. The 22r is a great motor. They don't over heat much. Check the Thermostat first. And then the water in the radiator...lol. J/K about the radiator, Im sure you did that.

IMHO,















your oem rad is fine for capability. (not saying it ain't plugged or what ever).















a single electric fan is just fine on these. that's what we put on 'em with a manual cut off switch. so when we hit the water the fan shuts off so the blades don't chew the rad in water. no shroud.































you know you need a two stage t-stat on pre '85 22 short decks. they have no bypass hose!!!!
