i agree with AL about moisture in the distributor.
however, typically just a rag won't do it. pull the distributor cap. spray WD-40 liberaly in there. cap and connector to. then check to see if the air filter is soaked.
that's it!. these are fairly simple ignition systems in 88. you can wash these anytime IF you prep with WD-40 first, and stay away from the air box.
sometimes there's a little more to do,
if she still wont start, spray every connector related to EFI and ignition in the bay, and the plug boots to.
