your initial issue might be the idle-up valve on the a/c pump. it has two vacuum lines going to it.
if the issue with the idle-up valve is vacuum related, it's possible that the cold start circuit would give enough vacuum to start, but once off, she'll die.
but you may have two separate issues now.
i'd check for vacuumm leaks, then use starter fluid. that would prove ignition-spark/timing/coil/pu coil/ignitor are good for now (notdefinitivee).
listen for the click of the injectors. EFI fuse or main relay there.
but pulling the EFI fuse will clear trouble codes. you might pull those first. don't need a scanner.

procedures for pulling. reading, and clearing codes can be found there as well.
that's a free manual for your vehicle. just sign up, plug in vehicle info, and go to "repair info".
there are procedures to check out the ignition/distributor as well, if it comes to it.
