can't comment on price. verify the oil leak first. that's the same as buying it with an unkown water leak. even if it didn't over heat. and you wouldn't/shouldn't do that.
4x2/4x4?
in general, both the 22R/RE I4 and the V6 3VZE can get 300+. easily if maintained. both engines are non-interference type and don't require t-belt *replacement* unless it's had a life of towing and short cold runs.
the 22 engine is lighter, lower center of gravity, and can do anything off road the V6 can. but they have trouble maintaining hwy speeds due to it's long stroke.
V6 can pull a 20ft boat and trailer at hwy speeds. I4 can't.
it's been said they have the best 4x4 gear in the OEM business. AISIN. spensive.neither engine will get you much better than 17/25mpg 4x4, a few more for 4x2's. +-..
