Would I be able to fit a Toyota Hiace Diesel into an '85 Toyota van?

Hi, i just need to know if there's any way to fit a Toyota diesel into a Toyota van of the year of 85. its a 5 speed manual and it has a blown l4 2.0 L engine in it. i want a diesel but also i don't want to have to do too much modification.

This is an interesting question. I know it can be done but my understanding is that it will take a bit of modification to do it. Your bets bet is to visit these two websites with this question:

If you don't already know, the Toyota Van has a huge cult following, like the VW vans. There are many fans out there. I used to own a 1989 Van and I currently own four Previas. Those websites will give you a newfound love for your van and you will be discussing these issues with people that truly know these vans. Many of them own multiple Vans and one guy owns 12 I believe. i would definitely heed the advice to go to a forum. they can help you through the process. that really can't be done in this venue.

food for thought,

the van in that gen did come with a 2C diesel. it wasn't sold in n. america. but typical to toy, the chassis should be config to accept either (mix and match mounts). the same chassis was shipped world wide. these were even offered with 4x4. rare to say the least.

but you will have to do a lot of changes. they weigh more so shock-spring/strut upgrade. radiator/fan(upgrade), entire fuel system needs to be changed.

then there's the trans. the power band isn't the same. so addressing the final drive ratio is in order.

typically the trans for diesels are different. so they may not even mate. in a forum, they might suggest an adapter kit.
