Can i import a toyota supra from japan to michigan?

I really want a supra but all the supras that are for sale are usually big money and I heard the ones in Japan are cheaper and I really want a right hand drive car

Considering it will cost roughly $10,000 to have a japanese spec car brought up to US standards, I highly doubt you'll be saving any money. Plus, right hand drive in the US is reserved for postal trucks for a reason, because they are dangerous to drive in this country. You delivering mail from this Supra?

There are a bunch of things to be considering with this proposition. The first thing would be shipping costs, i don't have a figure off the top of my head but they are bound to be expensive. Japanese emissions standards are much more relaxed than the states so a fair amount of money will go to meeting those requirements. Another thing to consider is i have heard of people having to import the car from japan to canada, legalize it in canada and then bring it back to the states. Either way you are looking at more money than it would be worth spending. The only other option i could think of is buying a body from japan, then getting a 2jz rebuilt motor from the us with the computers and everything you will need to get the car running. that way it should be up to spec with the emissions and the only other issue would be the right hand drive. i havn't looked up the laws on it but i do believe that a right hand drive vehicle is legal but double check with the local police department, there may be a special license or a test you need to take before they will consider you legal to drive it but i doubt it.
