I had some trouble with the switches in the switch stalk to the left of the steering wheel on my '85. The low-beams worked fine but when I switched to high-beams, the headlights would go almost dark. I took the steering wheel off and removed the collar that encloses the switch stalks. Then I found the metal contacts, cleaned them and abraded them with a little fine-grit sandpaper. They've been working fine since. I wish I remembered more about where the contacts were, exactly, but it was a while ago.
