I'll assume it's an automatic. If you push on the accelerator and your tachometer spikes but you aren't getting any power to your wheels, you definitely have something wrong with your transmission. If your check engine light is on and you have a way of getting to an Autozone they can plug into your on board computer and tell you what error is causing you to have your check engine light on. they provide this service for free. Otherwise, your local autoshop will charge you anywhere from $30 to $90 just to inspect your engine (including transmission) to tell you whats wrong.

if the trans is shot no need for the scan call a trans shop and have it towed if it won't move also check the fluid to make sure it is full
