check brake switch on the peddle for function. check for weak return spring as well.
brake lights are a safety item. they are on an un-switched circuit. so even when the vehicle is off, power is supplied to the switch on the peddle. 12v in, no 12v out with foot off peddle. return spring is responsible for peddle location. sometimes the hanger bushing for the peddle is gone and the peddle hangs off center.
switches can be had or ordered at any auto parts store. return spring or hanger bushing can be had at a wrecking yard or the dealer.
