my MR2 is dieing at idle PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!?

did the tune up, spark plugs, wires rotor and rotor cap but it still dieing. i would start it up it would go to 1000rpm for you seconds and than it would go down to 200-300 rpm for 1-2 seconds and than die. if anyone knows what the problem might be or whatever. Your help will be appreciated, and God bless.

well, first there is little information about your mr2 and which engine is in it. Did you only replace the cap and rotor or was the entire dizzy removed? Assuming the new plug wires were installed on the correct cylinders and the dizzy was not removed I would start with the rotor, was it installed at the correct position? Second, check your afm, be sure it is attached properly and creating a seal in the intake piping. Third, double-check all of your electrical connectors, make sure they are secure and connected.

i had a celica with the 22re similar thing... while i was driving it, it started to spudder. when i got to the traffic light it shuddered dipping to 200-500 making a choking sound. i gave it gas to try to save it, it died, wouldn't start. turns out it was the ecm/ecu replaced it with a refurbished one in; that fixed the problem. the ecm is located around the center console in the celica maybe you might want a preformance computer... anyway good luck with your mr2 i do like the mr platform, just never found it to be practical for myself..

good point DH you should find someone with a diagnostic computer, that might point you in the right direction. retail i think theyre about 150 or so.

It could be a vacuum leak and since its dieing only while

idling it could also be the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve. Dont go

looking into the ECU im probably 100% it is NOT the ECU.

Change the IAC out first and see if that solves your problem
