1986 Toyota pickup, wheel and brake clearance problems?

So I plan on buying the Pro Comp series 52 wheels, 15x8 with 3.75 inches of backspacing; I called my local tire/wheel dealer and he said they wouldn't fit because the wheels would contact the brake caliper.

It sounded strange to me, so I contacted Summit Racing and they said the wheels would fit very nicely on my truck, and clearance issues were never a problem until the Tacomas in the 90s.

I would just like to be 100% sure the wheels will fit, even though I have seen many similar Yotas with the same Pro Comp wheels.

Thank you for the responses, but a simple, "yes they will fit or no they won't" would suffice.

The wheel would go around the caliper, so the chance of it rubbing it would not be an issue. I would be more concern on it rubbing the frame or the fender. Local dealer doesn't really want to install different size wheel due to the warranty issue.

The original wheels on the '86 4wd were 15x6 with 4.5" of backspacing. Most wheel fitment issues are on '85 and older trucks which have less clearance around the steering arms. An '85 wheel will fit on an '86 but an '86 wheel won't fit on an '85. The reduced backspacing will space the rim out further where it has less chance of contact with the brakes and steering components.

I've run 15x8 wheels with 3.5" of backspacing on my '85 with no problems. I can't guarantee it 100%, but the 15x8 with 3.75" should fit just fine on a solid front axle, '85 and older truck, so it should have even more room on an IFS (Independent Front Suspension) '86 and newer Toyota.

P.S. These earlier trucks weren't called Tacomas. They were called "Truck" in the US and "Hilux" in other countries. The Tacoma wasn't introduced until part way through 1995.
