I need help with my 1990 Toyota 4runner?

It's a v6 2 wheel drive truck, well the symptoms is it has a lack of horsepower, and the check engine light, battery light, and brake light keep turning on and off, sometimes they flicker, and when i have my car in idle, like when I stop at a red light, the car turns off. It has a brand new starter, and I had the alternator checked, and autozone said it's good. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be, and an approximate price to fix it?

How many miles on the truck. More than 200,000 you could be looking at a major engine overhaul which will cost at least $2,000, more than twice what it's worth. Time to shop for another vehicle.

id trade it on or sell it unless you want a new motor. lack of horsepower could mean its not getting good compression or enough air/fuel. dirty injectors or and air filter?

the best thing to do is give it a full fresh tune up. check you accessory belts.

then see what trouble codes are stored. don't need a scanner tool. make it blink at you.

in lieu of that, it could be an emissions/ignition or valve timing/T-belt issue. take it in to a shop for diagnostics and estimates.

Try cleaning the Mass Air-Flow Sensor. Clean your throttle body. You can buy MAF/throttle body cleaner at any autozone or whatever. Get a new o2 sensor. Get a tune-up. Take a bit of advice from the mechanic. Do not get rid of your Toyota.

It could even be a clogged catalytic converter building back-pressure. Catalytic converters have a 'honey-comb filter inside, and with age, it will become brittle and break apart inside, inhibiting air flow. Hit is with something hard like a broomstick and see if it sounds like a can of rocks and sand. If it does, replace it with an aftermarket cat, but only if you live in a state without vehicle emission checks (smog checks).

Im thinking your engine might be choking and causing it to stall and light up your dash (just like when you turn the key in your car on, but not start the engine).
