Difficulty driving Toyota Corolla?
I'm currently in Drivers Ed and I'm doing the on-the-road part of the course and the Drivers Ed cars are all used Toyota Corollas and I think are from early 2000's. I know every car is different and that you kind of have to adjust but I've driven four different cars, a 2011 Mazda 2, a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix, a 2008 Pontiac G8, and a 1996 Chevrolet truck (a Cheyenne I believe) and I have no difficulty driving these and I feel comfortable behind the wheel in all of them.
The reason I don't like the Drivers Ed cars is because in order to get the car to actually get to a decent speed in a decent about of time, you have to practically mash on the gas. If you don't, the car barely moves and it'll take nearly a minute for it to get to the desired speed. Same thing with the brake, in all the cars that I've driven at home, I can tell how long it's gonna take me to stop at say a stop sign or a red light. However, in the Toyota Corolla it takes me a long time to stop even if I'm going at the same speed as in the other cars, I'm not on a hill or any other factors that would take longer to stop with, and so I end up not stopping in time without slamming the brakes. Also, I feel the car is difficult to steer. I practically have to turn the wheel almost like I was trying to do a complete U-Turn just to curve on a gradual curve.
Basically, I want to know if this is something with because all the use the cars get, is it because of the Toyota manufacturer, what is it? It's not me because I'm usually able to steer well, stop in time and do all that stuff and I'm not nervous about driving. And, is there anything I can do to kind of help this? I feel like it's kind of affecting the grades I get on my driving... Thank God I get to drive my own car for the actual driving test at the DPS...
