It's hard to say. There are just too many factors that affect race performance. The transmission often makes more difference than the engine. Some have closer-spaced gear ratios with less torque-converter slip and others soak up a lot of the power before it gets to the drive shaft. Also, the rear axle ratio makes a big difference. Weight plays a big role, as you mentioned.
You can't always go by the numbers. I remember in 1998 when Four Wheeler magazine did their truck of the year test, they were getting better acceleration and speed from the Tacoma with the 3.4 v-6 than the Dakota with the 5.2 v-8.
I'd actually probably put my money on the Tacoma--that 2.7L has some spirit and Toyota auto transmissions are pretty power-efficient.
