why won't my car move?! please advise?

I got a 95 Corolla with 150k miles. I changed (not flush, change) the transmission fluid in April and drove it regularly until late May of this year. No problem whatsoever. When I was changing the fluid, the mechanic (good rep) said my tranny is still in decent shape.































I went abroad for 2 month and came back just now. THe whole time my car was stored in the garage. I started it today and the engine runs fine, but when I put it in reverse or drive, it won't move. I even put it in neutral to push the car out and it still won't move.































Can a tranny just die like that? I heard stories of trannies dying after a transmission flush, but I did not flush the transmission, and I also drove for like 2 month without problems. It even shifted smooth as I remember.































I remember the night before I left, the car was in the driveway. I turned it on and drove it to the garage. It even worked fine then! so how can it (or the tranny) magically die after 2 month of no use?















btw, no fluid leak. nothing on the floor or driveway. level is good.

never heard of an auto trans, in static state, locking up a vehicle. unless it actually can't be shifted from "park" they have torque converters. total disconnect when engine is off. given that, *likely* not an internal trans issue -not definitive though.

inspect shift cable. if it can't be shifted manually out of park, the parking pawl wont be released. i would have someone stand on the brakes when you do the following. don't want a runaway.































shifter cable rigging,















Remove the engine under cover.















Loosen the control cable lever swivel nut.















Push the control lever to the right as far as it will go.















Bring the lever back two notches to the Neutral position.















Place the shift lever in Neutral.















Hold the lever, lightly, toward the R range side and tighten the swivel nut.

i would not trust the e-brake till it's checked.















sometimes the e-brakes get stuck even if the e-brake handle is released. jack it up in the rear, release e-brake and see if the wheel turns. inspect e-cable and rear brakes.
