Default Tacoma 3.4 L Head Gasket Failures. Anyone had Problems? What's The Fix?
Anyone been plagued with numerous 3.4 L Head Gasket Failures like I have? There's been 4 sets of gaskets installed so far, and this last set has failed after only 23,000 miles.































Granted, I do now have 280K miles on the engine, but I've maintained it regularly, always using the red factory coolant with distilled water, and the engine has NEVER overheated. I don't want to sell the vehicle. It uses no oil between changes and I just put brand new tires on the truck.































Those who have similar head gasket issues, what have you done to correct or solve the problem?

Who installed? Have the head & block surfaces checked out!

Head gasket should be installed correctly for the life of it,surface should be clean and flat,head should be milled for a better clamping force and bolts should be tighten to specs by torque wrench.

toy had gasket issues back when the epa banned asbestos. early nineties. they got it right then.































as stated have the decks checked. heads and block. and this time, if they/you didn't b4, use new head bolts. i would buy ARP fasteners.

With the mileage on your engine you should just consider getting a used engine to solve the problem. Got to think about 4 sets already installed, mileage is considerably high, plus water has already entered the engine. Theres probably no use to fix it getting a used engine would probably be wiser.

If the head wasn't checked for warpage and cracks the job was not done right. If the head was warped but not resurfaced, the gasket was bound to fail. If the head bolts were not torqued in the correct sequence and to the proper torque, failure is guaranteed.
