Toyota camry 89 fuel filter line broke when trying to install new fuel filter.?

Ran out of gas right in front of gas pump. After putting gas in the car, the car would turn over but not start. Was told to replace fuel filter. When replacing fuel filter the gas line to the bottom of fuel filter broke.

Normally, there is a piece of rubber hose that attaches from the fuel line ( which is made of metal ) to the filter; if that is what is broken, the replacement piece of hose can be purchased and replaced easily; if the actual metal fuel line is broken, then you may ( ?? ) be able to use a longer piece of rubber fuel hose to connect from the broken fuel line to the filter OR you may have to replace the entire metal fuel line - difficult to know w/o seeing the line

to add,

use a fuel rated hose. make sure the line you cut has absolutely no burrs b4 splicing in a hose. turn the key to the start position briefly after the cut and b4 you splice in the hose. need to flush any metal out of there.

if you have any more issues, and post another Q, do include the engine type. I4 or V6. it will be needed.

Its just a rubber hose.

Go to Toyota and they should have the hose

there and not more then a couple bucks.

should be very easy to replace

Replace the fuel line. That's the problem with ethanol is that's what it does to ordinary fuel line- rots it. MTBE was much worse. You see the label, "Flex Fuel" on the back of some cars...it means they have been modified to tolerate that crappy alcohol fuel. The 89 Camry is not a Flex Fuel car. You need to replace the fuel line.
