Default Does anybody know if the 2005 Toyota Camry LE have a timing belt, or chain?
It's a 2.4L engine. I've heard that if it is a chain, it does not need to be replaced. Is this true? My car has 86,000 miles on it and if it's a belt, I should look into getting that replaced.

It does have timing belt. If it is a chain it need to be replace too and it is more expensive to do so.

NO..that answer is totally wrong. Toyota's 2.4 VVT-i uses a timing chain that does NOT need to be replaced. Should the chain break (ive never heard of one breaking) all Toyota engines use not inteference valves so you are safe anyway.

2002-2006 Toyota Camry has a timing chain, which is more efficient and reliable.....versus a timing belt which has to be changed at certain intervals as part of routine maintenance.































2001 and older models use the timing belt system.
