This vehicle has no big battery pack and no gasoline engine?

I know it must have SOME battery, but it does not have a high capacity power storage battery pack, yes?

Why do they post article w/o explanation or schematic ?

But where does the term HV 'hybrid vehicle' come from?

Maybe it does have a gasoline engine with electric assist of some kind?

Does it have electric motors at the wheels or some big electric motor at the engine?

What is going on here?

Please do not explain Fuel Cell, not asking about that, we can all SEE it has a FC and storage for hydrogen. And fuel cell generates electricity, not asking about that...

Explain what is NOT obvious, not what is obvious, if you have any details, please.

What isn't obvious is that fuel cells are kind of like nuclear power plants in that they don't change output power very quickly,they take time to ramp up or down. The FCHV runs the fuel cell at a constant average power and handles the peaks and valleys of power draw required for driving a vehicle by pushing power to or from the HV battery. So say if you are cruising at a constant speed that requires 10kw to maintain and you go up a hill that requires 20kw to climb followed by a downhill that requires no power the extra 10kw is first drawn from the HV battery and then put back into the HV.

Batteries aren't perfect however so you don't get back 100% of what you put in hence for the situation above the fuel cell might run at 11 or 12kw instead of 10.

If you didn't have the HV battery and only had just the fuel cell there would be no throttle response and it would take forever to get up to speed.
