it can be a *can* of worms.
aside from procedures (see "source"),
those bolts, of all the fasteners on an engine, are the worst (save the heat shield). they routinely break. serious temp changes and corrosion.
they break on even the best mechanics. don't remove each bolt completely. just crack each one. then remove all. if one is stubborn, reinstall surrounding bolts to take pressure off the stubborn one. good tools, penatrent, clean bolt heads will be key. don't forget to grit your teeth correctly.
engine well into cooling, apply the penatrent. as it cools, hopefully it will pull some of that in.
if you break one, stop. put all bolts back on and drive it to a shop. to pull a broken one would require an easy-out. being a head, and aluminum, let a pro do that. don't wanna have thread issue on the head itself.
